LG bucked the trend of foldable devices at MWC earlier this year, as it chose to launch the LG V50 ThinQ with a Second Screen attachment instead.
The peripheral might not be a once-off though, as the Korean company has just issued a video for its IFA 2019 conference (seen above). The 8-bit style clip confirms a September 6 event in Berlin, and shows off the Second Screen in a big way.
LG traditionally launches an all-new V-series smartphone in the second half of the year, so we can likely expect an LG V60 ThinQ or something similar at IFA 2019.
The firm has changed things up a little in recent years though, launching the incremental LG V35 ThinQ at MWC 2018, and the V50 ThinQ 5G earlier this year.
It stands to reason then that we're looking at an LG flagship that makes heavy use of the Second Screen attachment once again. The Second Screen on the V50 can be used as a virtual Bluetooth gamepad, a second window for video playback and other apps, and a more flexible camera viewfinder for awkward shots.

So we're expecting similar functionality from an LG V60 ThinQ (or whatever it's called) equipped with this case, as well as a few more features. Other expected specs for a new LG flagship include a triple rear camera setup, Snapdragon 855 chipset (or the Plus variant), water resistant design, and hopefully a 3.5mm port.
A new LG flagship with a Second Screen attachment would launch in the same month as the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X. The firm's recent financial results suggest that the V50 and its Second Screen didn't deliver commercial success, so it's going to be an even bigger battle for LG as it faces proper foldable phones.
