Please note, Gears POP launched the day after we wrote this piece so we're featuring it in our September round up!

Doom I and II

Price: $4.99 each

Bethesda launched mobile ports of Doom I and II this last month. They are fairly faithful ports of the original games and a good way to play the original on your phone if you want to. Both games comes with DLC included along with mobile controls, and Doom II comes with Master Levels. Here's the thing, it's a mobile version of the game and it's quite as open and friendly as the original versions. Thus, some purists don't like it and we can definitely understand why. Additionally, the controls are a bit clunky and you need an online account and that baffles us. In any case, if you don't mind the bad stuff, it's not a bad port of a 25 year old game for $5 each.

Elune

Price: Free to play

Elune is a new free to play gacha mobile game from Gamevil. It plays a lot like most gacha mobile RPGs. You play through a story, summon various characters with various abilities, upgrade those characters, and try to become as powerful as possible. You can expect power creep over the long term like most gacha games. The game also includes 200 characters. It's the most F2P friendly gacha we've seen, but it's about average in that regard. It's not bad overall.

Farm Punks

Price: Free to play

We talked about Farm Punks a couple of months ago when it launched in beta. The developers launched the official game toward the end of August 2019. The full version is way better than the beta version and includes all of the game features from the onset. A reminder for those who may not know, Farm Punks is a runner style game. You launch fruit from a cannon, collect what you can, and turn it in to get the rewards. It has excellent replay value and it's from Noodlecake Studios of Alto's Adventure fame.

Flashback Mobile

Price: $4.99

Flashback Mobile is a mobile remake of one of the most popular games by a French developer. It's an action adventure game with retro, hand-drawn graphics and simple controls. It plays a lot like the classic Another World game. You explore a 2D world, find stuff, avoid obstacles, kill bad guys, and play through the narrative. The touch controls are a bit sluggish, but you get used to them after a couple of hours. It runs for $4.99 with no in-app purchases or ads.

Gigantic X

Price: Free to play

Gigantic X is a top-down sci-fi shooter. It features colorful graphics, surprisingly intense game play, and easy enough controls. The game features three playable characters, a bunch of loot to collect, and online multiplayer with friends. It's fun, colorful, and there is a ton of action. However, it does play like a lot of other top-down sci-fi shooters so fans of that genre should feel right at home. It's a good play, especially for a mobile shooter.

Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare

Price: Free to play

Gundam Battle: Gunpla Warfare is a Gundam mech game with gacha elements. You collect various Gundams and you can customize them with parts from other Gundams. It uses the gunpla aspect for the various parts. For those who don't know, gunpla is a 1/144th scale model kit although the scale can change. Thus, a lot of the customization and upgrades revolve around the model kit theme. In any case, it's a good gacha game for Gundam fans.

Plants vs. Zombies 3 Pre-Alpha

Price: Free to play

Plants vs. Zombies 3 Pre-Alpha is an alpha release of the next big Plants vs Zombies game. Players can get in, check out some of the new game play, and leave feedback to help the developer fix bugs. In fact, the official graphics, seen below, show that EA is still very much tuning the mechanics to perfection. This game should be popular as the first two games were so it may be fun to get in and see the stuff early. However, you should definitely expect bugs and things to be imbalanced and ridiculous.

Plants vs Zombies 3 is one of the best new android games from 2019

ROOMS: The Toymaker's Mansion

Price: $4.99

ROOMS: The Toymaker's Mansion is a new puzzle game with some adventure and escape game elements. Players play in a variety of rooms. You must slide the panels of the room around to get yourself to the other side. The game includes 144 total levels spread across a 96-level campaign and 48 special levels. Additionally, the story has two endings for a bit of replay value. For an escape room puzzle game, it's not half bad. It runs for $4.99 with no additional ads or in-app purchases.

Top Speed 2

Price: Free to play

Top Speed 2 is the latest game in the popular Top Speed series. This one is a bit hit or miss compared to the original, but it's still a decent racer. The game includes over 70 cars, an online multiplayer mode, thousands of tuning and customization options, a storym ode, leaderboards, and more. It can definitely feel repetitive the longer you play, but most free to play racing games feel a bit like that after a while. It should also improve with more content and polish over the coming months.

Type II

Price: $6.99

Type II is an interesting mixture of FPS and tower defense. The game takes place in first person mode and you shoot at various bad guys before they can reach the end. You get multiple weapons, multiple towers, 120 Hz display support, achievements, cloud saving, and more. It's mostly FPS with a smattering of tower defense. Still, the game is surprisingly good for its weird mix of genres. It runs for $6.99 although it is on sale for $3.99 at the time of this writing.
