HMD Global is readying its first smartphone with a pop-up camera, according to speculation from MySmartPrice. The rumored device is believed to be the Nokia 8.2, a sequel to the Nokia 8.1 from last December, and it's being tipped to launch soon running Android Q.
The handset is expected to come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage, while earlier rumors had suggested it would feature a Snapdragon 700 series or Snapdragon 735 chip. MySmartPrice's source is tipster Ishan Agarwal who has contributed substantial Android leaks in the past.
The pop-up selfie camera is said to have a 32MP sensor — a popular choice among midrange Chinese handsets like the Xiaomi Mi CC series. We don't know anything about the Nokia 8.2's other cameras, but the original Nokia 8.1 had a dual rear camera design with Zeiss optics. The original also based on Android One.
When should we expect the Nokia 8.2?
Given that Google is expected to launch Android Q next month, there's a chance we would see the Nokia 8.2 soon after, perhaps in time for IFA 2019 in Berlin. Depending on where HMD Global is at with its development, the Nokia 8.2 could be among the first phones released running Android Q out of the box; the company has a name for its commitment to new Android versions.
Of course, all this depends on whether HMD Global is working on the device at all — these are still only rumors for the moment. I have to say it would be nice to see a Nokia 8.1 sequel though — we considered that phone the best Nokia phone you could buy at the time of our Nokia 8.1 review and it easily found a place on our best stock Android phones list.
