Honor is the latest smartphone brand set to enter the television space, and the Huawei sub-brand has now given us a few details about its upcoming Honor Vision TV.
Honor president George Zhao revealed the details at the Global Mobile Internet Conference in China earlier today. For starters, the Honor Vision will be powered by HiSilicon's Hongu 818 chipset.
In an emailed press release, Honor said the chip featured an (unspecified) octa-core CPU design, and 8K/30fps or 4K/120fps playback. Other media-related features include HDR support, 64MP image decoding, super-resolution, motion estimate and motion compensation (MEMC), noise reduction, dynamic contrast improvement, and local dimming.
Honor claims the new chipset is also capable of far-field voice interaction, suggesting that voice assistants will indeed be available on its TV set. Hopefully Amazon and Google's assistants will be available if the TV launches outside China.
The Huawei sub-brand said the Honor Vision will also offer a pop-up camera (seen in the video above and in the main image), adding that the feature would enable "NPU capability for face recognition." We don't know how facial recognition will be used on the TV set, but one possibility is the TV showing different content and a different home-screen depending on who's watching.
Meanwhile, Gizmochina reports that the Honor Vision is already available to reserve on China's JD.com online retailer. The retailer's price is listed at 9,999 yuan (~$1,453), although it's unclear if this is placeholder information. The listing also reveals that the TV is a 55-inch model, while giving us the aforementioned look at the selfie camera too.
Honor will fully unveil the Honor Vision on August 9, which also happens to be the date for the Huawei Developers Conference keynote address. Huawei has already confirmed that EMUI 10 details will be revealed at the conference, so it's going to be a pretty busy day for the manufacturer.
