The Samsung Galaxy Fold has endured a troubled development period, as reviewers discovered major product defects shortly before its initial April launch. Some of the defects include broken screens and a protective, non-removable screen layer that people peeled off.
Now, Bloomberg reports that Samsung has finally completed its redesign, citing people familiar with the matter. As for specific tweaks? The company has apparently tucked the protective screen layer into the foldable's bezels, making it "impossible" for people to remove in the first place.
Samsung reportedly redesigned the Galaxy Fold's hinge too, as it hopes to eliminate the crease that forms on the display when it's in tablet mode. More specifically, the hinge has been pushed "slightly upward from the screen (it's now flush with the display) to help stretch the film further when the phone opens."
A Korean news outlet also reported earlier this year that Samsung was apparently working to reduce the hinge gap. The original gap apparently allowed dust and other debris to enter the device, seriously affecting the display.
Bloomberg's sources say Samsung hasn't decided on a launch date just yet, but they claim that major Galaxy Fold components will soon be shipped to Vietnam for final assembly.
The sources add that Samsung is unlikely to re-launch the device at its Galaxy Note 10 event on August 7. Will you buy the redesigned foldable phone when it eventually hits stores? Sound off in the comments below!
