Oh Snap, guess who BlackBerry is suing next?

BlackBerry isn't making as much money as it did in its heyday, so cynics weren't exactly surprised when the company moved to file a lawsuit against Facebook last month.

The suit alleged that Facebook violated patents related to the Canadian company's messaging technology. But the social network came out blazing, to say the least.

Editor's Pick

"BlackBerry's suit sadly reflects the current state of its messaging business. Having abandoned its efforts to innovate, BlackBerry is now looking to tax the innovation of others. We intend to fight," the company's legal representative said at the time.

Now, it seems like the mobile player is moving in on another social platform in the form of Snap. According to Mashable and Bloomberg, the suit accuses the house of Snapchat of violating six patents. The patents relate to mapping and messaging technology.

Bloomberg adds that two of the patents were among the seven in the suit against Facebook.

Interestingly, one of the patents seen in the filing seemingly relates to displaying a number alongside a messaging icon, denoting how many messages are unread.

Nevertheless, a BlackBerry representative asserted that the company had "a strong claim that Snap infringed" on its patents.

We've contacted Snap and will update the article accordingly if/when we receive a response.
