After the reveal of the Mi Mix 2S and Mi 6X, the next flagship smartphone from Xiaomi to make its debut will likely be the Mi 7. Unlike last year, the Chinese manufacturer is rumored to announce two versions of the device: the Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus.
What exactly will the phones bring to the table? To help answer that question we've put all the Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors in one place, as well as added our own thoughts and educated guesses where applicable.
Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors: Release date
The nitty-gritty

Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors about the release date are conflicting. According to Chinese leaker Mocha RQ, the smartphones could arrive in June, putting them two months behind their predecessor in Xiaomi's typical annual release cycle. Apparently issues with the in-display fingerprint sensor technology caused the delay.
However, a report from DigiTimes tells us a slightly different story. It claims the smartphones will be revealed sometime in the third quarter — between July and September. The publication says problems related to the 3D facial recognition solution the Mi 7 series will use pushed back the reveal date of the devices.
Xiaomi hasn't shared any info about the Mi 7's release date, so there's no word on which report — if any — is correct.

The most trustworthy Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors claim we'll see two versions of Xiaomi's upcoming flagship: the Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus. The former is said to come with a 5.65-inch display (up from the Mi 6's 5.15 inches), while its larger brother could measure 6.01 inches. Both are expected to offer Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. According to the folks over at XDA Developers, who dug through alleged firmware files of the Mi 7 Plus, the smartphone will sport an OLED panel with an always-on display feature. No word if the same applies to the smaller device.
The firmware files also hint at a dual-camera setup on the back, so you can capture those fancy bokeh images. The camera is also said to offer AI-enhanced photography by recognizing different screens and automatically adjusting settings for optimum image capture. Details like megapixel count and aperture size are currently unknown.
An in-display fingerprint scanner for at least one Mi 7 smartphone has been confirmed.
Both smartphones will likely be powered by the latest and greatest Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with either 6 or 8GB of storage. Lei Jun, the founder of Xiaomi, confirmed on Weibo the inclusion of an in-display fingerprint scanner, though we don't know if this applies to both smartphones or just the Plus model. If true, Xiaomi would be the second manufacturer to release a smartphone with this technology — the first was Vivo.
The fingerprint scanner may not be the only way to unlock the device. A report from DigiTimes claims the Mi 7 will be the first Android smartphone to come with a 3D facial recognition feature, much like the one found on the iPhone X. Again, there's no word if this applies to one or both Mi 7 models.
We expect other specs and features, like wireless charging, Android Oreo with the MIUI skin on top, and 64 or 128GB of storage — although a 256GB variant is also a possibility. We also hope the Mi 7 smartphones will be fully waterproof as opposed to being just splash resistant like the Mi 6. The headphone jack likely won't make a return, which is a deal breaker for some, and there probably won't be a microSD card slot on board.
The Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus sound like big upgrades over last year's model. Larger displays, 3D facial recognition, an in-display fingerprint scanner, and top-of-the-line specs would make them great alternatives to the Samsung Galaxy S9, Huawei P20 Pro, and other 2018 flagships.

Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors: Design
- The Mi 7 and Mi 7 Plus might sport an iPhone X-like notch.

Unfortunately, we haven't seen any trustworthy images of the Mi 7 smartphones. But we did find a picture allegedly showing the front panel of one of the devices, which gives us an idea of what to expect.

The display of the smartphones (or at least one of them) could come with an iPhone X-like notch. This can either be a good or a bad thing depending on whom you ask, although our poll shows most people are against this design trend. The image also hints the smartphone could have extremely thin bezels, thinner than the Vivo X21 UD that sports a screen-to-body ratio of around 85 percent (see the side-by-side comparison above).

We don't know what the back will look like, but we expect it to be clean and simple, much like the Xiaomi smartphones seen so far. It will likely be made from glass to support wireless charging, with a metal frame. There's a chance we'll see ceramic editions of the smartphones, just like in previous years.
Xiaomi Mi 7 rumors: Price
- The Mi 7 is said to start at 3,000 yuan (~$475).
- This would make it 500 yuan (~$80) more expensive than its predecessor.
- The Xiaomi Mi 7 Plus will cost even more.
Xiaomi's smartphones have always offered a great performance for their price and we don't think that's going to change with the Mi 7. But the Xiaomi Mi 7 could be more expensive than its predecessor, due to the larger screen, in-display fingerprint scanner, 3D facial recognition, and other new features.
The 64GB version of the Mi 6 retailed for 2,500 yuan (~$395) at launch, while the 128GB variant went for 2,900 yuan (~$460). The 128GB ceramic edition was more expensive, at 3,000 yuan (~$475).
Rumors out of China claim the base model of the Mi 7 will cost 3,000 yuan. There's no word on how much the Plus will set you back, but it's safe to say it will cost more.
Although a price hike of 500 yuan (~$80) is a lot, the Mi 7 could still be a bargain if it comes with all the rumored specs and features. For comparison, the Galaxy S9 costs $720 and the LG V30 costs $670. However, keep in mind that the Mi 7 series will be more expensive when or if it makes its way to Europe and the U.S..
