Back in February, Microsoft launched the Skype Lite app for Android. It's aimed at Indian users and offers a fast, lightweight, and most importantly, data-friendly experience. The company has now launched a new feature for the app powered by machine learning called SMS Insights, which basically takes the most important info from the texts you have received and presents it to you on one page.
It definitely sounds like an interesting feature to have, but only if it works as advertised. Users in India can sometimes be bombarded with a lot of spam SMS messages, which the new Skype Lite feature should recognize and make sure you won't see it on the Insights page.

What you will see are any appointments you might have, delivery information regarding the online purchases you've made, and all the discounts retailer have sent you via SMS. The feature also allows you to check your flight status, review and pay bills, as well as check your bank and wallet balance, among other things. You can learn a bit more about it in the short promo video below.
Microsoft wants you to be sure that it won't read your SMS messages and that they won't be stored on their servers. Also, the feature isn't enabled by default, as you have to give an SMS permission to the app to use it.
The new feature is already live and if you want to try it out, just update the Skype app on your device and you're good to go. Those of you who haven't used the app yet and would like to see what it's all about can download it from the Play Store via the button below.
