Mid-range Moto G5S Plus makes its way to the US by September’s end

When Motorola announced the Moto G5S and Moto G5S Plus back in August, it was somewhat of a surprise given how it was less than a year since the Moto G5's and Moto G5 Plus' release in March. Even so, the Moto G5S Plus looks like the budget phone to beat as it officially makes its way to the US in a little over a week.

As a refresher, the Moto G5S Plus is similar to the Moto G5 Plus in some areas. Both phones share a 5.5-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 processor, 3,000 mAh battery, and either 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage or 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Both phones also feature a fingerprint sensor below the display that comes with gesture support.

The main differences rest with the build and cameras. Whereas the Moto G5 Plus still featured plastic on the exterior, the Moto G5S Plus comes with an all-metal unibody design. The Moto G5S Plus also rocks an 8 MP camera instead of its predecessor's 5 MP sensor. More significantly, the newer phone features dual 13 MP rear cameras versus the predecessor's single 12 MP camera.

Motorola remained quiet about the Moto G5S, which was promised for a US release this fall. Seeing how Motorola will continue to sell the Moto G5 Plus alongside its enhanced sibling for the foreseeable future, however, that might be for the best.

As previously mentioned, the Moto G5S will come in two variants: one with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage for $230, and another with 4 GB of RAM and double the storage for $300. Both models are available for pre-order, but keep in mind that their prices stick until September 28, when both will see a $50 increase to their price tags.

Either version of the Moto G5S you get will go on sale September 29 and work with all four major US carriers, including Verizon and Sprint.
