Amazon's quest to take over the living room just got another step closer. Today, in addition to a ton of new Echo announcements, the e-commerce giant announced the new Fire TV, a $70 dongle that supports 4K HDR content and has Alexa built in. It looks a lot like the Chromecast Ultra but still acts like a set-top box with a remote.
The new Fire TV plugs right into your HDMI port and you're off and running. You can then stream HDR content in up to 4K resolution at 60 frames-per-second. It also supports Dolby Atmos audio if you have speakers or a soundbar that can push it. The remote is rather standard but does support voice search. If you have an Amazon Echo, you can pair your Echo and Fire TV for a truly hands-free searching experience.
The Chromecast is one of Google's most underappreciated products
Prime members will have access to their library of content with the Fire TV and upcoming special events like Amazon's broadcast of Thursday Night Football. Additionally, you can load apps like Hulu, PlayStation Vue, or Sling TV and ditch cable. The new Fire TV will launch on October 25 for $69.99. You can head over to Amazon now to pre-order yours.
