Samsung’s latest W series premium device will likely launch this month

At a Chinese expo a couple of months ago, Samsung teased the release of the latest W series device — the W20 5G. According to China Telecom's Weibo account, it's likely we will see the device launch this later month as suggested by the advertisement image below.

Earlier information suggested that the device will come with 512GB of internal storage and two colorways — black and white. This is a solid upgrade over the last generation W2019, which came with either 128GB or 256GB of internal storage.

In what might seem like related news, a few days ago, Samsung teased a new flip phone style foldable device concept at its Developer Conference. But it was nothing more than that — a concept.

Due to the timing and some confusing language on China Telecom's Weibo post, some speculate that the new W20 5G is Samsung's next foldable device. But we think that is unlikely for several reasons.

Firstly, the language used in the Weibo post says the device is a new Samsung "folder." According to SamMobile, this is a word Samsung commonly uses internally to refer to its flip phones.

Secondly, further details about the device neglect to reveal anything special about its hinge technology. This alludes to the fact that there is nothing worth mentioning. Given the Galaxy Fold's hinge issues, Samsung would most likely include these details if the W20 5G was another foldable device.

Lastly, if the W20 5G was Samsung's next foldable, it would have most likely shown off the device at its Developer Conference. This only makes sense since we are so close to the W20 5G's apparent launch. We think this device is most likely just another overpriced W series flip phone that probably won't come to western markets.
