Samsung Galaxy S10 series gets stable Android 10 update in first market

Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus

Update, November 28, 2019 (8:08AM ET): It looks like Samsung is ahead of schedule, as it's reportedly pushed out the stable Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update to Galaxy S10 series phones.

According to SamMobile, the company has pushed out the stable One UI 2.0 update to beta users and people still on Android Pie. Before you reach for your Galaxy S10e, S10, or S10 Plus though, you should know that this update is only rolling out in Germany right now. In any case, it still suggests that owners elsewhere won't have long to wait.

We spotted the stable update on a Galaxy S10e enrolled in the beta program in Germany, and it's very tiny at under 150MB. Obviously people upgrading from Android Pie can expect a much bigger file size. It's also worth noting that this update brings the December 2019 security patch, even though we're still in November. Check out our screenshots above.

  • When will the Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e get Android 10? December 2019 – January 2020 (estimated)

The Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, and S10e launched with Android 9 Pie, the then-latest version of Android. They are expected to receive two major updates in the future in keeping with most flagship Android phones.

Based on Samsung's recent updates, the phones should receive Android 10 by the end of the year or possibly in January 2020. However, it could come much sooner than that since Samsung has recently revitalized its ambitions when it comes to Android updates.

Samsung added a bunch of Note 10 features to its Samsung Galaxy S10 family shortly after the phablet line launched.

On November 8, 2019, the South Korean firm brought even more Note 10 functionality to its S series phones.

The Gallery app was updated to search for photos using keywords like "cat" to see… photos of cats.

Samsung also added an enhanced device search which finds content within streaming apps. A Media & Devices button was also added in the Quick Panel to lets users control a bunch of connected devices.

Alongside the fun but silly AR Doodle camera mode, the only other Note 10 feature to make the transition was a tweak to Samsung Dex which lets users dynamically edit videos when connected to a PC or Mac.

An Android 10-based One UI 2.0 beta is currently in progress in the US, South Korea, and other select markets.
