Google Fi outage: Having trouble placing phone calls? You’re not alone. (Update: Fixed)

Project Fi plan

Update: June 3, 2019 at 3:12 p.m. ET: According to Google, the Google Fi calling issue has been resolved. We have confirmed this on our devices as well.

Original article: June 3, 2019 at 2:05 p.m. ET: A widespread outage appears to have hit the Google Fi waves. According to an 86-comment thread on the Google Fi forums (via Android Police), many Google Fi users are unable to make or receive cellular calls over Google Fi. Wi-Fi calling and SMS do not appear to be affected, according to the forum posts.

Along with the many users on the forums, Android Authority has been able to confirm the Google Fi outage using three different phones. Interestingly, while many of the forum users are unable to place Wi-Fi calls via Google Fi, all three of the phones we tested experienced Google Fi outages on both Wi-Fi and cellular calls.

Google is aware of the Google Fi outage and is actively working on a fix. In the meantime, Google suggests:

  1. Download the Hangouts Dialer app from the Google Play Store.
  2. In Hangouts, set incoming calls to "On": Settings > Your Fi Account Google Fi Calls & SMS > Incoming Calls (On).

We will update this article as we learn more about the Google Fi outage.
