Google Camera update adds Google Lens access for Pixel and Nexus owners

  • Google is updating the Google Camera app with support for Google Lens.
  • Devices that support Google Camera will now be able to access Google Lens directly in the app.
  • Google Lens is also available through Google Assistant, a standalone Google Lens app, and Google Photos.

Google is rolling out a Google Camera update that gives it easy access to Google Lens. Phones that support Google Camera, such as the Pixel and Nexus devices, will now be able to access Google's AI-powered tool  alongside the other camera modes in the app

According to 9to5Google, launching Google Lens in the Google Camera is basically the same as when it is launched through Google Assistant. This means Google Lens will give you information about objects that it can see through the viewfinder. Users can also copy, search for, and translate text.

Google has slowly been expanding the reach of Google Lens since late last year. Initially, it was made available to some Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners through the Google Assistant app. It then rolled out to Android devices with Google Photos installed, before coming to certain flagship devices as part of Google Assistant. Most recently, it was made available as a standalone app.

It appears that integration in the default camera app is the next step for Google Lens and it is already available on the default camera of brands such as Sony and Lenovo

The update is now rolling out, but if your device doesn't support Google Camera, you can download the standalone app by clicking the button below.
