AlwaysOn is new trend of this year. To check time or battery no more need unlock your phone. You can try feature from LG G5, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge in your phone.
To turn on display just douple tap on screen. AwaysOn will be permanently displayed on screen.
Recommended AMOLED display – you can also try it on LCD or IPS but I think there will big battery drain.
Features:
• Double tap wake up device like LG phones
• Long press on date show calendar
• Tap on notification icon open app
• Swipe left/right over battery row to change brighness for short time
• Automatic backlight control for AlwaysOn from light sensor depend on light
• Turn alwayOn when receive call
• Turn alwaysOn if phone is in pocket or proxi sensor active more then 30s
• Time which allow sleep AlwayOn when phone is without motion more then set time
• Option for configuration views size, color, position and visibility.
• Options to set wallpaper
• Options to set color for views
Tested on Galaxy S6

How About battery? i do not know I need testers then will see. I just did it.
