- The McLaren F1 team and OnePlus have announced a partnership.
- The duo will also make a joint announcement at a "Salute to Speed" event next month.
- It's believed that a McLaren Edition OnePlus 6T is on the way.
The Formula One world is no stranger to tech partnerships, but McLaren's latest announcement might pique some interest. The British auto company and F1 constructor has revealed a partnership with OnePlus.
The two companies say the "first stage" of their tie-up will be revealed at the "Salute to Speed" launch event at McLaren's Technology Centre in the U.K. on December 11. So what could they be launching, then?

According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the company will launch a OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. Agarwal says this could be the most expensive OnePlus device yet. McLaren's trademark color is Papaya Orange, so I wouldn't be surprised if this is part of the color scheme for the supposed handset. Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.
It's not the first time McLaren has partnered with a consumer tech brand in 2018, having announced a tie-up with HTC earlier this year. The HTC partnership yielded a special edition Vive VR headset (in Blue and Papaya Orange, no less), including the rFactor 2: McLaren Edition video game and McLaren Garage VR experience. The F1 team will also be using the Vive as the official headset for the McLaren Shadow esports initiative.
The news adds to an impressive year for the Chinese brand, having launched a device via a U.S. carrier (T-Mobile) for the first time. The phone in question, the OnePlus 6T, has purportedly been sold out at roughly half of all T-Mobile stores, according to a Business Insider article earlier this month.
In any event, we look forward to seeing what the two companies have up their sleeve. Hopefully this supposed special edition smartphone has a few extra features as well, such as the super-fast charging seen in the Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition. After all, OnePlus uses Oppo's fast-charging technology anyway.
