- BlackBerry released a teaser video of its upcoming KEY2 smartphone.
- The video confirmed certain details and revealed a mysterious button next to the symbol key.
- BlackBerry will announce the KEY2 June 7 in New York City.
Even though the BlackBerry KEY2 will be announced in two weeks' time, the company gave us a sneak peek at the upcoming smartphone with a short teaser video.
From the dual cameras around back to the keyboard, the teaser video confirmed some aspects of what we already knew about the KEY2. In particular, the video also showed off the phone's murdered-out black aesthetic, patterned rear panel, dark metal frame, and refreshed buttons. Even the keyboard gets a new finish on top, a bonus for those who did not like how the KEYone's keyboard felt.
Interestingly, the video also highlighted a button that sits next to the symbol key. We will keep our fingers crossed that the button does not summon some sort of voice assistant and is programmable, but we will have to wait to learn more about it.
As a refresher, the KEY2 will reportedly feature a 4.5-inch display with a 1,620 x 1,080 resolution and 3:2 aspect ratio, 12 and 8MP dual-camera setup around back, 3,360mAh battery, 64GB of built-in storage, and a fingerprint sensor hidden in the space bar.
The phone will also reportedly run Android Oreo out of the box, retain the quickly-disappearing headphone jack, and generally appear similar to the KEYone before it.
BlackBerry will announce the KEY2 June 7 in New York City. Expect the phone to set you back somewhere between $550 and $600 whenever it goes on sale.
