In a new Instagram update, the Facebook-owned social media giant features support for native payments.
According to an Instagram spokesperson, who confirmed the feature with TechCrunch, the payments feature lets Instagram users add their credit or debit cards, set up a security PIN, and buy stuff without leaving the app.
One of the first businesses to support the feature is dinner reservation app Resy, though Instagram said additional businesses will support the feature over time. Eventually, you will be able to buy things like movie tickets through Instagram.
To check if you have the feature, tap the Profile icon on the bottom right. Android users then press the three dots on the top right, while iOS users press the cog next to Edit Profile.
From there, swipe down to the Settings section, then see if Payments is at the bottom of the section. Not everyone will see it, since the setting is still rolling out to folks in the U.S. and the U.K.
The payments feature might work with Instagram's Shoppable Tags feature, which lets you tap a tag on an Instagram post and then buy the product. Whereas the payments feature keeps you in Instagram, Shoppable Tags pushes you to a business' website to complete the transaction.
