Samsung and Disney have teamed up to bring characters from the Incredibles 2 movie to its AR Emoji lineup. The characters coming to AR Emoji include all five members of the superhero family, as well as their friend and fellow superhero, Frozone.
These AR Emojis will join the existing Disney lineup of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Donald Duck that were unveiled earlier in the year. Disney previously promised that characters from Frozen will also be turned into AR Emojis in the future.
In a press release, Samsung said: "The companies' latest collaboration serves as an incredible example of AR Emoji's ability to make communicating with friends more personal and fun." Samsung
While a nice play on words, it is perhaps a stretch too far to call what AR Emojis do "incredible." In case you need a reminder, they are emojis that are animated by your facial features. The final product can then be used to personalize messages sent from the phone. The feature has been compared, sometimes unfavorably, with the Animoji feature found on the iPhone X.
Also, while its hard to disagree that AR Emojis will make communication more "fun," it will be interesting to see how much crossover there is between the target market of the $700+ Samsung Galaxy S9, and Pixar's upcoming children's superhero sequel.
Currently, AR Emojis are only available on Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus devices. Users can download the new superhero-themed batch by opening up the camera's AR Emoji mode, tapping the plus icon, and selecting the Incredibles AR Emoji pack from Samsung's Galaxy App Store.
