Google Play video series celebrates the creative minds behind the best Android games

The mobile gaming industry is the fastest growing and most lucrative sector within the wider global games industry, with countless new titles released every day for Android devices via the Google Play Store.

Yet despite the market's meteoric rise, we barely ever get to see the creative process behind our favorite mobile games, especially when compared to their well-documented counterparts on console and PC.

Editor's Pick

Google is looking to change all that with a new video series called First Person that it hopes will shine a spotlight on the talented minds that work on some of the best games available for Android devices.

The series kicks off today on YouTube with a trio of episodes focusing on three different artists. The first centers on the ludicrously talented voice actor Ashly Burch of Horizon Zero Dawn, Life is Strange, and Borderlands 2 fame.

Burch, also known for her irreverent antics in the comedy web series Hey Ash, Whatcha Playin?, recently starred as Nebula in Telltale Games' episodic take on the Guardians of the Galaxy license. In the video, Burch recounts the moment she knew she wanted to be a voice actor (playing Metal Gear Solid) and how she approached the role of Marvel's villainous cyborg.

The second showcases the work and mindset of Bennett Foddy, the creator of punishingly difficult games like QWOP and Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy, and how said games became such a hit among the YouTube gaming community.

The final episode focuses on Vassiliki Khonsari, one half of the creative team at iNK Stories which developed the politically charged 1979 Revolution: Black Friday and more recently Fire Escape — an award-winning interactive VR series for Google Daydream.

You can keep track of the series by subscribing to the official Google Play YouTube channel and heading to the playlist here.
