5 of the best Star Wars mobile games worth checking out for May the Fourth

our favorite star wars games
May the Fourth be with you! For fellow Star Wars fanatics, today is a bit of a quasi-holiday. It's also the day that plenty of Star Wars related sales pop up. In honor of one of our favorite fake holidays, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at what we feel are the best Star Wars Android games currently available on the Google Play store.

While there are dozens of apps and games related to Star Wars, many are either unofficial or just plain terrible. Thankfully, there are a few gems.

Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
While there are many freemium Star War games out there, this is one of the best. It's a gacha game. That means you'll get to collect a variety of Star Wars characters from both sides of the fight. You make a team and face off against other players. It's not a perfect game, though. The game's balance changes up frequently when more characters are added. The combat mechanics are slow because it revolves around a turn-based style. Still it's a fun game that's perfect for popping open and play for five minutes for those moments when you just want to kill some time, and Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes fills that role perfectly. Just beware that it becomes a grind after about level 40 or so.

LEGO Star Wars: TFA and TCS

Price: $6.99 each
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
The LEGO Star Wars series aren't quite the same as the console versions, but they are still a heck of a lot of fun. The controls are intuitive, there are plenty of characters and vehicles to unlock, and, I mean, it's Star Wars. What's not to love? There's also some great storylines with plenty of classic LEGO humor thrown in. You pretty much get to play through every major battle from the Star Wars movies. The only downside is the game is a bit heavy on the in-app purchase side of things.

Star Wars: KOTOR

Price: $4.99

Not everyone agrees, but the Episode 1 through 6 timeline really gets old after a while, at least when it comes to gaming. This classic RPG takes place during the old republic era, long, long, before the events depicted in Episode 1 and beyond. Although I first played KOTOR on the Xbox back in the day, the Android version faithfully recreates the magic of the original release and the touch controls built in aren't half bad either. There are no in-app purchases found in KOTOR, and the game is the full version, meaning nothing has been slimmed down for mobile. That means you get at least 20-40 hours of gameplay and considering you can make decisions that turn you towards or away from the light side, there's actually at least some replayability to be found here. At the end of the day, KOTOR isn't just one of the best Star Wars games on mobile -- it's one of the best ever made for any platform, and it's only $5.

Star wars: Force Arena

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
If you're into fully multiplayer online experiences, this one is worth checking out. Force Arena is sort of a tower-defense style game that lets you put together a Squad and put them into battles against real players. It's not just a you-vs-the-world situation either, as up to two players can play on your team with you. While this is far from the best Star Wars game ever, it's fun, free, and pretty easy to get into. Of course there are the expected in-app purchases.

Star Wars Commander

Price: Free with in-app purchases

It wouldn't be entirely off-base to call this one Clash of Clans meets Star Wars. Okay, that's an oversimplification, but it's your typical resource-gathering, base-building game set in the Star Wars universe. The game does have story based missions based on the movies, which is a plus. While it's not a perfect game, it continues to get a decent amount of updates and support. It's a freemium title with the prerequisite in-app purchases, and there are also some ads. If you can live with that, it's worth a try.

Angry Birds Star Wars 1 & 2

Price: Free with in-app purchases
DOWNLOAD ON GOOGLE PLAY
Okay, masterpiece the Star Wars Angry Birds franchise is not. Still, it's a fun distraction with a dose of SW nostalgia thrown in. There are two games in the series so far, letting you relive Star Wars with birdized (that's totally a word) versions of of your favorite Star Wars characters. Free with in-app purchases.

While there are certainly more Star Wars games to be found on Google Play, these are just five worth checking out. Have a favorite we overlooked? Let us know down in the comments.
