However, it still does the basic rhythm game stuff really well. You can download it for free and buy more songs through in-app purchases.

Lanota is one of the most unique rhythm games on this list. It puts a much heavier emphasis on the story line. You'll play as the eponymous title character as you travel a map and discover new secrets. The actual game mechanics take place on a giant wheel that moves around. This makes the game both challenging and complex. It doesn't feel like other rhythm games even though it is one. It features ten levels, three difficulties, 16 tracks, and a picture book that shows you the story. It's definitely unique.

Lost in Harmony is a beautifully done rhythm game with runner-style elements. Players control a boy and girl in the center of the screen. They must avoid obstacles to the beat of the music. There are two stories in the game, those of MIRAI and Kaito. Additionally, the developers boast over 10,000 additional tracks by other members of the community. To be perfectly honest, we don't play games like this one very often. It's a free download as well with some in-app purchases.

Lethe is one of the newer rhythm games on mobile. It refers to itself as a theatrical music game. It has a story and the game is technically rhythm style. However, the taps can appear anywhere on the screen with all manner of swiping and tapping. Like they say, it does feel more theatrical. It doesn't quite feel like a classic game in the genre. it also boasts hand-painted graphics. It really is a beautiful game if nothing else. The game is free to download and play. You can purchase additional content as in-app purchases.

These are among the best of the best in this genre on mobile and possibly outside of mobile as well. Each games a bit of a story with some songs to play. There are in-app purchases for additional song packs as well. These are top tier good, although some, like Mandora, haven't been updated in a very long time. They're all free to download.

TunesHolic is one of the more traditional rhythm games. It uses a flat, colorful style similar to Guitar Hero. There are a variable number of buttons for you to tap and the game features the ability to create step files from any music file on your device. It doesn't always do a good job, but it's still fairly entertaining. You can even control things like speed, difficulty, and more. We're trying to say that the execution is a bit sloppy, but still fun. It's free to download so you can try it if you want to.

The game will give you 30 tracks for free, three difficulties, and Google Play Games leaderboards and achievements. You can pay for extra stuff as in-app purchases. It's good for what it is.
