Facebook Messenger lets you send 360-degree pictures and HD videos

Facebook

The latest Facebook Messenger update not only allows you to send 360-degree photos, but also 720p videos to others. Facebook already supports 360-degree images and videos in the main app, but the update lets you capture a 360-degree picture with your 360-degree camera and send it to others.

Messenger will then convert them into images that can be dragged around to see the whole thing. Alternatively, you can move your phone around to view the image. Either way, folks can determine a 360-degree image with a compass icon that sits next to it.

Keep in mind that you still cannot send 360-degree videos to others in Messenger. Also, you have to capture 360-degree images outside of the app.

Editor's Pick

The same goes for 720p videos, since the in-app camera will apparently remain at a lower resolution. As such, you can either capture footage from your camera, send videos from your News Feed, or send videos from another Messenger conversation.

Folks can differentiate between resolutions with the HD and SD marker that shows up next to high-quality videos. They can press on the marker to save mobile data or if there is a spotty connection.

Regardless of where you are, you can send 360-degree images in Messenger. However, only those in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, the U.K., and the U.S. can send and receive HD videos.
