If you are hopeless in the kitchen, then maybe you just need a little help on how to make some great meals for family or friends. Today, Google announced it is adding support for teaching people how to cook with the help of its Google Home connected speaker and its Google Assistant service.
The new feature will allow anyone accessing Google Assistant to get step-by-step instructions on how to make over 5 million different recipes, from sources like Bon Appetit, The New York Times, Food Network and more. You begin by searching and finding the recipe you want to learn to make via Google Search or Google Assistant. Then you can press the "Send to Google Home" button, which will save the recipe you picked to the speaker. If you can't decide on a specific recipe, you can say something like, "Ok Google, let's make chicken" and Assistant will offer up a random one for you to create.
After you pick one, all you have to do is say, "Ok Google, start cooking" or "Ok Google, start recipe" at the speaker. Google Home should then begin going over how to cook your dish. If you get stuck, or need to hear something from the list again, you can say, "Ok Google, repeat" to go back a step.
Google says this new recipe feature has just started rolling out, so it may take a few days to reach your phone or Google Home speaker. This could be a huge help for novice cooks who want to learn how to make good meals without burning the kitchen down. It could also help experienced chefs who don't want to go through printed cookbooks to learn how to make new dishes.
