cellnetwork and lte problems.

I have the h811 using tmobile.i noticed under cell network if it only has the option lte(recomended) then i cant make calls buy can use sms/mms and data.if it has the option gsm/cdma/lte then i can make calls and use sms/mms internet etc.why would this be?
